What is up with all of the PVC vinyl fences popping up all over the town of Islip and the rest of LI??!
They're hideous to look at and they're made out of freaking PVC which is one of the most toxic building materials ever created. Of course the manufacturers and distributors are obviously going to say that it's safe but it's been proven that it off-gasses and leeches into the surrounding environment for the entire life of the fence. It poses an extreme public health hazard as well as an extreme environmental hazard. I don't understand why people who have kids wouldn't take the time to do a little bit of research before walling off their entire house with a 6' fence of this tacky-looking toxic material!! Everyone assumes that since something is popular, or that a lot of people are using a particular material that it's safe!! At one point everyone had asbestos Kentile and thought that was safe as well. At one time everyone smoked and it was considered safe!
People are putting up these disgusting, toxic, 6' tall, plastic, behemoth eyesores everywhere!!
They completely obstruct airflow, wall-off views of greenery and cause yards to have a claustrophobic, enclosed, jail-like feel. As if you're stuck in a jail made of ugly, cancer- causing, tacky-looking plastic. Yuck!!!! I'd rather look at an old fashioned wood fence any day!! Even chain link fences look a million times better!
I hate most things...but I love me some PVC fencing! One of the greatest creations ever. Hurricane Sandy blew it apart, I collected the slats and put it back together in minutes. Drunk teens slammed shoulders into it...I collected the slats and put it back together. Bird poop? Quick wash. Sanding? Staining? Painting? No way. I think it looks clean and neat. No carpenter ants, no rot, no nails, no splinters, no warping.
Toxic building materials?!?! hahahahahaha I live 10 blocks from the plume!! My PVC fence is a non-issue. And if you think the rubberized coating they use on chain link fences (unless you love rust) is non-toxic, better race back to your drawing board for better info. Oh and my fence was manufactured on Long Island so even a bigger win. None of that pinko commie Canadian lumber for me! Thank you for your post. I needed the silly diversion today!

!
I agree. Had PVC in NY, have wood here (HOA requires it) and it's a PITA for all the reasons you mention AND my dog chews on the posts.
The railings out at the front steps are white and they are starting to rot. In the dead of night they will be replaced with PVC...as was my mailbox post. No fuss no muss.

It's the whole Trump mentality (which doesn't care at all about health or the environment so good luck trying to get ignorant Long Islanders to care). Plus, these people are obviously too lazy to take care of a wood fence. Like anywhere, there are good people and bad people on LI. Luckily the bad people advertise it with their glaring, plastic a**hole walls so they're easier to spot and avoid!
Back in the 70's & 80's, I guess everything looked better 30-40+ years ago....
Stop complaining at least it's not chain link (heaven forbid the property values ) But now landscaping trends are the presidents fault also, have you considered getting some professional help or perhaps start digging a bomb shelter till your current crisis passes...

How did Trump's name come up in a fence thread? The mexican Wall?? I say Build it already. Anyway, my wife wants one of these white pvc fences but I don't like them. They are too stark white for me. I wouldn't mind a more earth tone and am not concerned with the toxicity of it.
