What type of pipe can I use for an outdoor water spigget in suffolk county?

does it have to be copper underground or can I use Pex, Poly pipe or PVC? I have about 150 feet of pipe to run, i need to tap off the current water spigget and put another spigget on the opposite side of the house.

Use PEX. Make sure you blow that line out for the winter.

PEX isn't UV rated though, it will fail with exposure to sunlight.

When you say "tap off the current spigot" do you mean you are just going to use a female garden hose end and connect it to the existing hose bib and then go underground? Not the best way, but it will work. If that's what you're doing I would use black poly pipe, no special tools required just make connections with stainless hose clamps and a screwdriver. Use at least 3/4" black poly for 150 ft run, 1" would be better to reduce friction/pressure loss.

I assume the current spigot is connected via copper (either 1/2" or 3/4") from inside the house/basement. The correct way to do the job is to break into the supply pipe inside the house and tee off a line to the other side of the building and install a proper frost free sillcock. A lot more work, but you don't have to worry about blowing out/freeze up, etc.

Yes! Anything exposed and above ground should be copper.

I’m tapping off the original spigot’s copper line, not the hose bib.

I’m going to run the black poly pipe under ground to where it needs to go and transition to either pvc or copper for the line that comes out do the ground for the spigot.

no, dont use black poly pipe for a supply line.. copper above, transition to pex if you want for underground... Use sharkbites if you dont have the proper crimp tool. add a drain and shut off inside the house so you can clear the pipe for winter.
