Do I need to permit to cut down a tree in my backyard? It's 80% dead, small/medium sized and has termites. Some of the branches are above neighbor's garage. I plan on spraying the internal trunk cutting it down early spring.

I've never heard of needing a permit to cut down a dead tree in a backyard. If that is something that seriously needs a permit y'all are truly doomed up there.

It depends. Some towns do actually regulate the removal of trees on private property.

Where are you located? Some of the smaller incorporated villages require permits.

It seems easier if the towns printed a 3x5 card containing the few items (if any) that don't require a permit...
