I am in a situation where there is no choice except for Altice for cable TV and high speed internet.
Of course, Altice knows this. It's in their computer system for their CSRs to see while I am talking to them. I don't know it's worth it to ask for a discount because I am a trapped cash cow and they know it.
In order to save money, I would like to get rid of the telephone.
I would like to port my phone number somewhere else before doing this because I want to keep the number.
Any suggestions on good places to port? I would also need international calling.
Opinions? Ooma, Magic Jack, a mobile telephone plan?
Another question:
Has anybody tried having your Altice cable account transferred to a roommate or family member and gotten a new Triple Play?
I have but it was with Cablevision, not Altice.
The only problem I ran into then was a new phone number had to be issued instead of transferring the current number.
I have done this transfer of accounts in the past when it comes to Cablevision and it worked. I haven't tried it with Altice and would like to hear others' experiences.
I don't understand, why is Altice your only option? Where on LI are you? Pretty sure the entire Island is eligible for Cabelvision. I know FIOS only goes out to about Islip...but that's the only real restrictions I know of. To be honest, I've never heard of Altice.

Thank you!
If you want to transfer your VOIP to a different provider, use Vonage. They will help you transfer your number over.
Magic jack is decent. Once in a blue moon there is a echo or a call doesn't go through. If it's a personal phOne and not for business it's fine. $30 a year can't be beat. I transferred my mom from cablevision 2 years ago since she moved a big 3.7 miles from Nassau to Suffolk and canlevision said they can't transfer her # across county lines.

Altice is Cablevision. They are a dutch co that took over Cablevision.
I transferred my number to T-Mobile digits when it was in beta (and free).
I use Vonage for my home office line. They are willing to work with you on price if you simply ask them. I got them to lower it just because I have a reimbursement limit. Settled on $18/mo. for US/Canada.
Nobody has a landline anymore.
Get internet only and watch tv online.
Cellphone for calls.
