So the new leadership in the Town of Hempstead thinks its a fabulous opportunity to put a huge electrical power substation in the neighborhood - in the backyard of an elementary school - to power a tremendous hotel in Elmont because the health risks, interference with all electrical systems and risk of fire and explosion is worth the minimum wage jobs the hotel will provide while servicing the crooks and miscreants who will want to holiday in the belly of Elmont. Good start. Very good start.

Is this ToH or the State and Nassau County (or just Floral Park)? Would be funny if after C-blocking the hub development (Lighthouse project), ToH is finding a way to bust up the Belmont project too. I don't buy it. Without Kate, I don't see them having the cojones or the sleazy smarts.

If the neighborhood activists doesn't want the arena, the state should just threaten to put in a prison with bus service from the LIRR station to the prison running via Tulip Ave. The only thing Floral Park residents fear more than change is minorities
All Floral Park does is fight everything. They complain about traffic then say they want an Amazon hub built there. So where are all the tractor trailers driving? Can't get on Cross Island. Going to take Plainfield Ave?

As far as I know - this all the Town of Hempstead. I doubt Gillen had the idea. From what I could garner - the company who wants to redevelop the area said they want to build a high rise hotel and the only way to get enough electricity - according to what PSEG says - is for them to build a big, hulking powerstation on the property - which is pretty much in the elementary school's parking lot. Residents are happy with Amazon - which hopefully will also bring with it some corporate jobs as well as warehouse jobs. Amazon also does a lot with solar power and a warehouse won't require a powerstation which is the most serious concern. Since Mangano's private bus company already runs inter-county buses along the Turnpike between Nassau & Queens -transit trucks aren't expected to have much more of an impact. Plus they run along there now all the time anyway because its the easiest line between the City and the malls further down the Turnpike heading toward East Meadow & Levittown and off Old Country Road.

Where are the tractor trailers coming down on the LIE from to get to the proposed warehouse? No north/south street big enough that allows them. Springfield Blvd in Queens Village doesnt, New Hyde Park Road is far away, Plainfield Ave through Floral Park ? Good luck with that, FP fights everything.

elmont activists want low income housing there, Floral Park wants to keep it as is because they think they are Mayberry and there can be absolutely no changes.

The complaints will change daily. First traffic, then tailgating, now the power station and then the hotel.
God forbid we get a hotel to serve the area that isn't filled with the homeless like the ones in Floral Park, Bellerose and West Hempstead.
God forbid we get the area which is currently a **** show and getting more rundown by the day cleaned up and become a destination where people want to spend money and bring in revenue.
Instead the NIMBYs will continue to **** and moan and Nassau will continue to decline with its aging infrastructure.

I just can't help but remember the hotel down a few miles in Hempstead - it took politicians forever to close it down. It was basically a shelter for drug dealers and prostitutes with rooms paid for by pimps. The parking garage was where the gangs met to take care of "business". It chased out legitimate businesses for blocks around it. For years it existed in a state of dangerous disrepair. This appears to be the same thing happening all over again - except maybe add organized crime and heavy duty gamblers coming to Belmont plus of course - heavy doses of nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide emissions coming from the power station. The school and the area will soon become a ghost town because no right thinking parent would take the chance of exposing their child to the potential of blood cancer and tumors associated with living so close to a powerful source of EMF radiation emissions. If you have to build a power station to make something run - that something probably does not fit in that area. But on the bright side - it guarantees a republican win in 4 years. One thing about the middle class when their family and neighborhood are threatened - they get busy. That's why we no longer have school speed cameras. Politicians saw a gravy train and did not give the taxpayers enough respect.

LOL - the LIE, the Grand Central Parkway and the Cross Island are less then a mile away from the proposed location. The Turnpike a little further West also goes directly into Jamaica Avenue (which turns into Jericho Turnpike to the East) and both Hook Creek Road and Francis Blvd go directly into Sunrise Highway - where transporters locally load and unload cars for all the auto dealerships. That's the route they take.
