Would love to meet the person that thinks it's worth shelling out $350k in Medford.

People give all sorts of credence to tabloid nonsense. I mean look at the way people take the US News school reports seriously (rather some reasonably valid system like Niche or QS or another)

well "Newsday" isn't actually saying it....it's a local realtor who is quoted in the article. And we all know realtors are always truthful!

There are some sections of Medford that are actually quite nice, in particular a section called "Old Medford". I sometimes think people object more to the school districts associated with Medford than to the community itself.

When you ask yourself if it is worth shelling out X amount of dollars for Medford, I would say as compared to what? Lloyd Neck? Commack? North Babylon? Each have their price points...

Medford IS a great place to buy a house.
As long as you don't live in it.

I lived in Medford for 7 years. The area right off Woodside Ave and rt 112. Beautiful area, and I loved it. Schools? The HS is the worst problem, but my kids did just fine. There are some crappy areas, that is true.

Medford is just like Florida.
It's block by block.
Some are great, some are not.

One thing good on LI, there's always another neighborhood that you can say your superior too.
