All, when I was parking at the $5 daily commuter parking lot south of the station, the cashier was telling me that the meters for the street parking have been broken for months, hence folks in the know have been parking for free. Is this true? I didn’t have much time before the train, but I did try adding a quarter to one at random and it seemed to work. No catch to parking for free at a broken meter in Westbury?

Generally the rule is, if the meter is broken you still only have the time listed on the signs to park there. You just get away with not having to pay. Police will mark tires as a timer to give out tickets.
Looks like a non-starter. I parked in the street today, never paid the meter, and came back to find a parking ticket. Oh well!
