Since Riverhead raceway is the only racetrack left on Long Island it will be sad if developers get their hands on it and create retail space. As much as certain people don’t like noisy cars, everyone has their hobbies and people to need to respect that. I wish this will stay forever but don’t know how much more it will be here.

My DH wishes Islip Speedway and Hampton's drag strip were still around.

Nothing like standing on the 3rd turn when the modifieds were running. Broke my heart in Sept 1984 when Islip closed. As a kid I remember Joie Chitwood, the year Nascar ran the Grand Nationals with Petty, Baker and Pearson, the midgets with Johnnie Coy. Great fun.

Why would you want more retail space? Malls are dying as more people shop online, at least with race cars and other sports people area getting together, they are going outside, they are socializing the right way and sharing a common interest which in this case is racing.

Retail ourselves to death, boring cookie cutter safe space, thank god I live in the sticks.

Long Island leads the nation in the war on fun. Ban everything raise fees fines require stickers... Those rats and snakes won't be happy till they make Longisland so boring and building a future so complicated and expensive that every young person is alone in their parents basement doing drugs.

I had this friend growing up, they impounded his bike. He could not get it back. That kid loved working on that bike and motocross. Within a few months he was doing drugs every day instead.

Sounds like a horrible place to live. I spent a few summers on Long Island as a kid because my aunt and uncle lived there and I'm from upstate NY, Carmel. It seemed nice back then but haven't been there in a long time, I now own a 4 bedroom 2 bath ranch on a small farm in rural Virginia.

Still have some family in Mahopac/Carmel and 2 cousins who reside on Long Island.
