My son is considering attending SUNY Cortland. I was told that 35% of the students there are from Long Island. Did anyone here attend or have a child that attended and can you tell me your impression?

SUNY Cortland is known as the "Harvard" for physical education majors.

I graduated from Cortland last May. I transferred there from a school in Maine. It has a party reputation, but I don't think it was as much as a party school as the one I went to in Maine. There are still quite a few people who don't party. There seems to be all walks of life there. Many of them are athletic, so it helps if you're involved in a sport. I always felt at home since so many of them were from Long Island lol. It's a good school though. Lots of good professors.

My niece has been there three years now and likes it quite a bit. She is NOT an athlete (many of her friends there are, though). Her only complaint is the cold snowy winters. Syracuse is only 45 mins- 1 hour away. I believe Cortland is one of the SUNY schools on the "upswing" also .
