First, I'll be 55 in March. Thus I'm wondering how strict are they such that I'd have to wait till I officially become of age before I'm able to move in?
Secondly, I also have a disability. Thus is the procedure or process different for those with a disability? Is there a way around it, etc?
Lastly, what are the criterias in terms of affordability in these communities? Knowing that many seniors are retired and do not have "proof of income" as required in many other apartments or communities, etc?
Actually I meant from a renting perspective. What would it take to rent in a 55+ community, etc?
I know there is at least one Senior Apartments complex just north of Babylon village because I used to pass it regularly when I lived in that area. I believe that's considered West Babylon.
Your best bet would be to google "senior apartments long island" or "55+ rentals long island" and check out the resulting links of complexes. Some have websites, some don't.
Every complex has an individual board and rules, therefore you would need to research each community you want to rent in to get your answer. In terms of disability, generally speaking, you are no different than a non disabled person rights wise, since you are renting. Looking at it differently, even if there were rental rules that applied to those with disabilities, I would think that you were not alone in that classification. Therefore, if an apartment has many amenities that would help a person with their daily living activities, I would assume that it would be in greater demand as an over 55 community, that normally would have such amenities.
