So I was told my car's window tint on the rear windows is too dark to pass NYS annual inspection.
The car came with the rear windows tinted, but apparently that doesn't matter when it comes to NYS inspections. I don't have any tint on the front windows, so it's like a half tint removal job.
I am in NHP, but willing to travel in Nassau, to eastern Queens, and to western Suffolk.
In addition, if anyone has had this done, what is a ballpark figure I can expect to pay for 1/2 a window tint removal since it's only my rear windows that need to be stripped off?
Sorry to hear this. I thought the back windows were ok. NY sucks.
Try radio/alarm shops. They usually offer tinting services or can at least recommend someone.
I had to have my prior tint removed and redone a couple of years ago for the same reason. I took it back to the shop that had originally done the tint in 2003 (Top Edge, in St. James.) They do good work. I also had them put clear UV blocking tint on a sliding glass door in my house several years later.
If I recall correctly it was something like $125 to remove the old tint from all four side windows. I had them replace it with the darkest "legal" tint which is better than nothing, don't know if it would have cost more had I not also had them replace the removed tint with something else.
FYI, rear side-window tint is only legal now on SUV-type vehicles. It's a no-no on sedans, coupes, convertibles, etc.
Buy a $20 clothing steamer preferably one that holds the most water. Hold steam on high to window tint and slowly peel it off. If you need step by step instructions, YouTube is your friend.
Might be easier to find the garage the police are using for their inspections on their personal cars. I see quite a few that still have theirs tinted! Smh.

BWAHAHA!
Now how would you even start a conversation with a cop about that subject?
