great to see a ramshackle village like Great Neck and it’s top rated schools and massively inflated real estate prices being “revitalized”. More like colonized.
There IS a correlation between top rated schools and inflated real estate prices, and sometimes a large Asian immigrant presence (like Holmdel and West Windsor Plainsboro in NJ). Would you rather have a place where school rankings and home prices are deteriorating?
Whats with the derth of authentic asian resturants on Long Island?
Its like there are asian resturants all along Northern Blvd up until Little Neck then nothing.
Is there is some oppressive nassau county resturant tax that makes Chinese resturant owners not want to open resturants?
Authentic asian resturants would make a killing on Long Island, since there are many asians like myself that dread driving to Flushing.
Restaurants need to go casual upmarket to attract a clientele that will pay a little more in order to expand further into Long Island or outside NYC. I noticed those shabu shabu places are patronized by Americanized Asians who pay more, which is probably why Spring will be opening on LI. There is also a ramen place (MB Ramen) in Huntington, 8 Ramen in RVC, and Slurp Ramen in PJ.
On the flip side, new arrivals tend to prefer dimsum or regional dishes (Cantonese, Hunan, etc.) that are cheaper which is probably why they cluster in Flushing or Chinatown Manhattan. That said, You Garden recently opened a location in Bayside's Bell Blvd. serving Shanghai cuisine, Peking Duck and dimsum so no need for LIers to drive all the way to Flushing.

Driving to bayside is no different than driving to flushing.

Bayside is nearer than flushing. It's a good option for long island people looking for a place to eat.
