Yup, it was only 212 for the entire NYC area. I remember when they added the 718 code and we thought we could never remember so many numbers even though most of the 718 numbers would not be counted as a "toll" call like 516.

I forgot all about "toll" calls, but I do remember party lines. We never had one, but my aunt who lived in Huntington did, and we thought that was so cool. I was a teenager and the idea that you could listen in on a neighbors call was such fun. My friends and I wished we had one so we could snoop on other girls conversations about boys.

I know 2 people in suffolk who have 934 area code for their cell phones.

Thanks for correcting me. I knew that 718 was the new area code for Bk, Queens and other boroughs
