Looking for real world opinions of people that have spray foamed the attic or whole house.

1) was the house more comfortable after spray foam.
2) did the Utilities bills drop due to Heat/AC running less due to less air leaks
3) any other opinions on the subject.

I DIY spray foamed my basement rim joist with the cans you can buy at home depot. Previously it was old moldy insulation that did nothing for air leakeage. I think it made a big difference in the winter and it was dirt cheap to do.

Thought about getting a pro to do my attic, but my furnace/hvac system is up there so it would too complicated.

Air sealing is the biggest advantage of spray foam, and I think thats where most energy leaks away.

I investigated it after an energy audit for my breakfast nook that had vaulted ceilings. I decided to skip it because they had to drill holes in the ceiling to blow the insulation in and I did not want to have to repair all that sheetrock. It was also not an inexpensive proposition.

Spray foam is not “blown in” insulation. That being said. I bit the bullet for my renovation project last month. I can’t tell yet if it’s worth it because the project isn’t done. 2 bedrooms around 600 sqft of living space cost me $3000. Ceilings, roof rafters and walls.

We have a ranch and did our first floor and attic, we will be doing basement when we get around to it. I can’t talk about bills because we did it before moving in. Our attic is always a cool temperature in summer or winter. The main floor gets chilly in the winter but as I stated we didn’t do basement yet.
We also gutted our house and put in new windows so easy access.

Really? I thought most modern foams have insecticidal properties.

Termites can use it as a tunnel if they can get in. I mentioned in other posts regarding pests. Termidor it’s illegal In NY but will destroy any colony on short order. On topic I decided to spray my entire home.
