Looking to install an in-ground pool. Have to have a new survey drawn for it which will show an outdoor staircase that the town (Brookhaven) doesn't know about. Will it be "picked up" when we go to file the permit for the pool? When they come to inspect for the pool? If we want to get a permit for the stairs and the entry door to the basement, would they need to enter the house or can inspect this just from the outside? Would like to avoid the permits for other work done in the basement.
Are you saying when the town sees the new survey, it will be a problem? Can we just get the permit for the additional entrance/staircase? Pay fines/fees and have that taken care of?

Is it a Bilco-style egress door or a typical entry door? The Bilco door might not be a problem, the other type might.
If it shows up on the survey, and the plans examiner picks up on it, they might make you open a permit for it and they'll hit you with penalty fees.

It's not a Bilco-style door...traditional cement staircase and entry door. I am fine with the permit and penalty fees...is what it is and in fact if we can easily do this, probably will to be safe...just don't want to get into a situation where when we open a permit for the stairs/door, they come to inspect (if that is part of the process), open the door and see the basement...trying to determine what the "inspection" for a staircase/door entails.
Once you file for the permits for the outside door it will be a slippery slope. Which will more than likely lead to the inspector coming inside the basement to “look around”.
