Baldwin near merrick and oceanside road is downright scary at night. The school district sucks.

For 600k you can get a home in bellmore or massapeqa both of which have good school districts. If you want to stretch your dollar per sqft you can buy on a main road

Or you could buy a shack in a good nortjh shore neighborhood. I know a guy who bougt a shack on the ass end of plainview for 325k.

There is crime in every town- reprobates are not bound by zip codes. There was just an armed home invasion in South Merrick:

Find a home you like, be a good neighbor, raise your kids right, and hope for the best.

That area is Oceanside and a hospital is on that corner. Nothing remotely scary about it unless you have iatrophobia.

Had to be a slab house dilapidated ranch or it was on Old Country or SOB rd. Anything for that price in that town is not worth it unless its being torn down.

I've been involved in new construction, I can 110% guarantee you that Baldwin house will not look like that, all that molding, trim, coffered ceilings will be upgrades. No one builds with baseboard heat , it costs way more $$ than forced air. I like how the builder shows the photos for "workmanship" He puts all fancy trim work etc but has photos of some cheap crap $35 sq ft absolute black granite and a bathroom with a one piece counter top and sink. He couldn't spring for real stone and under mount sinks for a few hundred more.

Haha! Right?
It's probably the best area of Oceanside.
Between Foxhurst and Merrick and from Oceanside Road to Grand, aka "Terrace" area is very nice and very safe. It probably is the only real nice section of Oceanside aka "The Dirty 'O"

It has a very RVC feel to it. Tree lined streets with mostly older colonials and capes.
Gun to my head to move to Oceanside and that's where I'd look.

Might be a very nice home but I would never ever pay that much for Baldwin unless...it has Oceanside schools. And that would limit it to a certain area anyway.
Baldwin gets a unfair bad rap sometimes. The harbor & bay colony is absolutely beautiful. I think it's a great alternative if you want to be near the water but can't afford the Merrick McMansions.

Personally I prefer Baldwin over Oceanside. Long Beach Road is so congested.

Fortunately, it's mostly petty property type crimes. Theft, burglary, vandalism, etc...

Violent crime is not something the average citizen has to worry about. Unless you work in a bank, 7-11, and such, it's mostly a non issue.
Lotta bad stuff does happen but it's not really stuff *you* need to worry about.

The next door neighbor chopping up the family with an axe is not your problem, yes it's a violent and disturbing incident but it was never a danger to you. Things like the kid being murdered in Oceanside do happen, but again, the chances of something like that happening to, or directly affecting you, are slim.

You are far more likely to have some kids knock down your ugly pvc fence or vandalize your car.
Porch pirating is common. Breaking into and robbing your vehicle or shed could happen.
But again, as common as this stuff is, the chances of it happening to you are low.

The ever increasing property taxes are perhaps the biggest issue you will face.

Most of Baldwin is fine, typical dead average suburbia. Same with Valley Stream, Lynbrook, etc...
Got it thank you for your input

Eisenhower Park in the vicinity gives it a neat graceful look. Amenities are all nearby but place is well shielded and has a proper suburban quiet look one is looking. A direct LIRR train from West-bury is 40 mins to Manhattan. On a good offpeak day one can drive into Manhattan within 25 minutes.

I will def. look into the area... thank you so much.
