The reason was straightforward. During the peak of the outbreak in New York City in particular, Fauci said, “there may have been people who died at home who did have covid, who are not counted as covid because they never really got to the hospital.” By now, the death toll in New York state is near 27,000. https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...-undercounted/

"Almost certainly it's higher," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, at a virtual Senate hearing on Tuesday. Ongoing testing kit shortages in cities and states nationwide means that only clearly symptomatic patients are currently being tested in many places. There also is no uniform national system in the U.S. for investigating deaths, and until two weeks ago, the U.S. was only counting Americans who lab-tested positive, before or after death, for COVID-19.
Left out of the tally are people who died without being tested and those who died at home or some other non-healthcare facilities before they could seek medical care. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/accura...ry?id=70385359
Everything Fauxi says is couched in terms of "may". If there is "no national system of investigating deaths" then how can they make blanket statements about what is or isn't being counted? What is on the death certificates of those who died at home? And surely we have a count of those who died at home unless the family didn't call authorities and just buried grandma in the back yard.

Oh I see, you have been listening to Tucker Carlson who claims that Fauci can't be trusted because he's never been elected to any office

Didn't see that but sounds about right. Fauxi can't be trusted because he can't make a definitive statement about anything. He could never make a decision because he's too afraid of being wrong. That's why he prefers to be an advisor. He gets to spout his opinion but never has to be held responsible for acting on it.
They’ll re-open before us. We’re going to be last.
