Health officials across the state are making a fresh call for New Yorkers to get the COVID-19 vaccine as some hospitals risk going “past capacity” amid staffing shortage and the recent spike in newly reported infections.
In upstate New York, several hospital systems are sounding alarm bells warning that many medical providers are beginning to become underwhelmed due to the number of COVID-19 patients coming through their doors and a lack of staff to treat them.

Hochul said she made the move to deal with staffing shortages and boost bed capacity amid an anticipated “spike” in new cases and the emergence of the new Omicron variant in South Africa. The strain is named after a letter of the Greek alphabet.
“We’ve taken extraordinary action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and combat this pandemic. However, we continue to see warning signs of spikes this upcoming winter, and while the new Omicron variant has yet to be detected in New York State, it’s coming,” Hochul said.

The reality is new york is now like a third world country where people can't get life savings surgery because the governor said so.
Not because of science , not because of facts, just because she said "it's coming"
Next week we will hear how she's ahead of everyone is the polls, and the media will refuse to ask questions and if they do, like the daily news did, they get manhandled and pushed aside
The same few CJers coming to the same conclusion over and over in thread after thread... I just spent the holiday with family down from LI... some of them work in healthcare... tons of other family and friends still on LI that I communicate with all the time... guess how many times the Gov and vax mandates have come up recently... ZERO... not some fluke, the entire Tday sitting around drinking and BSing with a family that works in a hospital on LI... none of this vax drama ever came up... which leads me to the easy conclusion that the same few CJers here are a big part of the problem.
In the end, the real fools are the ones posting over and over again about how bad NY is while taking it in the rear over and over again... by their own admittance... how bad it's gotten on LI and still sit at the computer every day proving it to themselves and posting how it gets worse by the hour.
Here's some great advice... if it's that bad, GET OUT OF NY... it's flat out awesome across the river and into some wonderful states where you can run around maskless and vaxless... you'd think that eventually you would come to this conclusion, so just trying to let you see how ridiculous it has become and you need to do something for your own sanity.

How you got the bolded out of that article is one for the record books, elective surgery is not life saving surgery unless they changed the definition of elective. Missing from the Post article is that this option is still the choice of the hospital system.
Governments world wide and states within the US are taking action against the more contagious variant banning travel and putting in restrictions but preparation is somehow a bad thing. I guess hospital planners should just bury their heads in the sand and make believe it won't come here.

Now the national guard is coming to nursing homes right around the time when the omnicron variant is coming.
Governor Hochul created a huge mess, the the media blames the lack of worker on...THE PANDEMIC and not her incompetence
The state will send 10 medical staff from the New York National Guard to the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care facility in Uniondale next week to help with staffing shortages, officials said Saturday.
The plan is part of a larger deployment of 120 National Guard medical staff to several nursing homes and long term care facilities around the state that have suffered staffing shortages due to the pandemic, officials said.

Honestly, do you ever offer a response to a point or just constantly go off on some new misinformation. You claimed "no one can get life saving surgery" which is of course a lie but now you have moved on to nursing homes, waste of time attempting to have an adult debate.
Now your blaming the media for lying about the pandemic shortages, based on what? Tour mind is made up don;'t let acts get in the way.
