What are the main differences between Bellmore and Merrick? Why is Merrick mentioned a lot but not Bellmore?
There’s a beautiful house next to me for sale, asking 850, everything is new on the inside, beautiful kitchen and bathrooms, 5 bedrooms and a huge backyard. It’s in Oceanside and Not in the flood zone. Not all Oceanside floods.
I’ve had wonderful experiences with Oceanside schools
If anyone knows anything I don’t please share.

I haven't seen anything bad at the Oceanside schools either, at least on the elementary level. They have an excellent STEM/Makers program for early childhood/elementary.

I’ll readily admit ignorance but usually where there’s smoke, there’s fire. I subscribe to the “buy the worst house in the best neighborhood “ thing. Merrick carries a 20% premium and there must be a reason. I grew up in a neighborhood in BK which had good schools that went to bad in a matter of a decade. We have a toddler so I’m hesitant to buy when the schools are already on shaky ground.
I think I can understand the reason. From NYSED. Oceanside SD is currently 69% White/asian. Merrick is 86%.also, I’d imagine that the Oceansise SD is trending less Asians/white over the past decade. It might not seem significant but from what I have seen in Brooklyn, when schools start to get under the 2/3rd number, academics start to decline precipitously and in many cases a flywheel effect begins whereby families that you want in the school avoid the school and speed up the process.
Some may see my rationale as racist but it’s just logical to me. Academics is the most important factor in our decision (relative to how much we can spend) and is like to provide the best environment possible.

I have no stake in the game. I just mentioned my observation. Some Oceanside residents send their kids to religious private schools because of the religious aspect, not to avoid the school system. At some point, Merrick will shift demographically too. North Merrick UFSD is already mixed demographically. Nassau is changing rapidly.

Nobody cares when demographics change to Asian. I maybe get a ban or deleted post. It’s when neighborhoods turn Hispanic or black that people fear.

In general, I find that unless people are very religious (e.g. Hasidic), they avoid public schools because of the quality (or perceived quality) and not really due to religious aspects.
North Merrick UFSD is 78% white/asian, 17% Hispanic, and 3% AA. I’d say the tipping point is under 2/3rd.

Not only do people not care about more Asians but they’re happy about it in many instances.

there must be some REALLY religious people in GC, RVC, Dix Hills, etc. lol.
There are actually allot of religious orthodox Jewish people in dix hills. They have a huge Chabad.
It's not just Chasidic people who attend Jewish Day Schools. There are schools for other branches of Judaism too. It seems that most people confuse Chabad with other forms of Orthodox Judaism. In fact, with the rise of anti-Semitism in NY and other parts of the US, Day School enrollment has increased, causing a slight decrease in the white population of public schools.
