Why do they take so long to check out an apartment that has been reported as illegal? It has been 5 weeks since I reported the apartment and no one has come to check it out. Don't they WANT to get rid of it? And yes, I know for sure the apartment is illegal. I saw the Certificate of Occupancy.

Some towns require filing a written complaint; don't know about Islip.

In that case I would follow up with a phone call.
If you kept a copy of your written complaint, I'd also follow up in writing, with a copy attached.

It could be that the landlord has a, ahem, "business relationship" with the town would it ?

Or, are illegal aliens involved ?
