Long Beach is the way to go. I moved here full time from the city and I will never look back. My wife commutes to Midtown and she has no problems. The LIRR is convenient. Lots of things to do here - if you are used to the city with restaurant delivery, almost every place here will deliver. Lots of great restaurants, art festivals, concerts on the beach, not to mention the fireworks on the beach. I love it here.

Fire Island would be tough, I think.

Tough but bearable.

Look on the brightside, when you get home youd be on Fire Island instead of Nassau.

There are folks who Jitney to Westhampton too.

You know wheres pretty cool is in Queens by Riis Park.

Best.

What about Atlantic Highlands and Sandy Hook in New Jersey? I've heard of people commuting from there. Does anyone know about the community and about seasonal rental options?

Try the NJ boards for information about these towns.
