Just fired up our in-wall AC and the thing sounds like a jet plane ready to take off. The thing is, it seems to be cooling OK. But the noise can be heard down the block!

Many repair companies want to charge over $100 just to take a look. Is that standard? Any recommendations?

I don't want to spend the $ if I'm just gonna need a new one! Thanks!

I agree. If its an older model its not worth fixing. More than likely its either 1) the fan bearings or 2) the compressor going. A new one would probably be cheaper with the labor costs of fixing it.

Look into a new Ductless Air Conditioner System. It is more expensive than a window AC, but uses half the energy, and is a more permanent solution. Another benefit, you get to use your windows again.
