Anyone have any experience converting a traditional/chlorine backyard swimming pool to a saltwater system? Would you recommend it? Pros/cons?

I would definitely recommend it. When we were relocated from LI to Va we put in a pool with a salt water system. Start up takes a few bags of salt but no more chlorine smell and the water feels softer.

I have not switched mine to salt water yet but I do plan on doing so. I have read a lot about it and have not heard anything negative as of yet.

They're selling like hotcakes!
So far every customer we have that has switched to a salt generator is very happy with it. Makes me happy too, very easy to service!
Some people get a bit confused and think they will be swimming in a saltwater pool, as if it will be like swimming in the creek, heh heh.
Not the case. It is still chlorinating the pool, it's just the process of how the pool is being chlorinated. You do NOT taste salt in the water!
The installation is very easy(for me at least). The biggest issue is the price for most people, as they are a bit pricey, but it will pay itself off in a short period of time, plus they are basically maintenance free. No chlorine taste or smell, no hair turning green or clothes being bleached out, and much nicer to your vinyl liner! Also an excellent option if you have sensitive skin.
However, it is very important to install a good unit, stay away from the over the counter/off the shelf crap from the pool stores. They are junk. Fact.

Hey Hotkarl, I recall you saying in a post somewhere that you do pool installations, do you have a web site with the products you or your company sells?

Thanks!!

Much better system. Cleaner, better on skin and hair. Less maintenance. Cheaper.

Why would anyone have anything else? Of course, with electricity costs getting ready to spike up, maybe a second look at costs. No, still love the chlorine generator.
