I dunno but as someone who sells a good amount of **** on CL, it is a bit troublesome. I have no choice but to cross-post to both longisland.craigslist and NYC-LI craigslist because most people only check one or the other. This is probably because going to craigslist > sites auto-redirects you to either newyork.craigslist.org or longisland.craigslist.org depending on where you are, though in some cases I've seen their geo-ip database get it completely wrong and redirect you to the jersey or hartford site
Ideally, the NYC-LI craigslist should be folded into longisland.craigslist.org to avoid confusion and cross-posting.
Now that CL is charging LIers $25 per job posting, this issue is serious as it doubles our fees to reach the island. Why is it still like this after all these years (note when this thread started).

The trick with Craigs list is the following: If you want your ad to show on the Long Island only posts, then when you first open the Craigslist site, you need to make sure 100% that you're on the Long Island Site. Then post it there, and it will show only on the Long Island Site.
In other words, if you first open up the New York Craigslist site, and the click on Long Island, and then post something, it's going to show up as NYC.
So remember, if you want your ads to show on Long Island only, go here:

Or if you want your ads to show in NYC only, then go to the New York site. I hope this helps. :-)
has anyone actually contacted them about it? It's definitely a problem as it thins out your audience.
Then again, since their website has always looked like it was developed in 1996, who knows if they care.
