Some people had told me that north of Hempstead tpk in Levittown isn't so good, but I drove through the area many times before buying our house, and it seemed fine. We've been living here for about a month now, and it's really quiet and safe. I don't see anything wrong with this area. I think all of Levittown is really nice.

I don't think anyone really suggested that Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown was a bad area, but just kind of ugly.

It doesn't look any different to me. I live about 3 blocks off 106, and most of the houses are pretty big here. It seems a bunch in my neighborhood were knocked down and are fairly new houses.

I don't mean the houses itself I mean just driving down Hempstead turnpike. Anyway I really don't think it is all that ugly, but I think that was the talk around here awhile back that you were thinking about rather than it being considered bad.

TTBoY4U, in case you are unfamiliar with the local geography:
What people refer to colloquially as "towns" are actually villages and hamlets, which are within actual towns; and, because villages and hamlets are referred to as "towns", then, many times, the error is compounded when actual towns are referred to as "townships".
Also, many colloquially refer to a "downtown business district" in a hamlet as a "village".
When you do find a house that you like, you can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
And, very importantly, as it is the largest determinant of relative good or bad areas within a village or hamlet, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.
You are a wealth of information. I learn something new everday. Thanks for that link.
Mr. Pullo, you're welcome.

Levittown isn't a bad area at all, but I think maybe sometimes the homes can be undesirable a) b/c they are old and b) they don't have basements. I grew up having a full-finished basement and I loved it. When I buy a house, I want one with a basement, def.
We looked at many levit houses, all without basements. Some of them were amazing, minus not having a basment. In the long run, wanting a basement won out. In hindsight, at least i wouldn't have had to worry bout a damp basement lol.
