My husband and I have an accepted ofer on a house in Kings Park. We had the inspection done a few weeks ago and I asked the homeowner at that time if there was a dry well. She mentioned to me that at specific times of the year (half the year), the washing machine does not go to the dry well but her husband changes it to the cesspool. Why would you not keep the washing machine directly to the dry well at all times?
Any info would be helpful as I am a Nassau County girl and can't recall anythign about cesspools or dry wells.

Thanks.
That is odd - my washing machine goes to the dry well 100% of the time, all year.
My in-laws used to do this, but it may not be for the same reason.
The dry well would freeze up in the winter so they would dump to the cesspool in colder weather. The dry well just wouldn't handle the amount of waste water in the colder months. Now they just run a pool vac hose out a hole in the foundation into some brush behind the house. They live on the east end.

Hmm.. Sounds like a good reason. I can't remember what months they said the washing machine goes to the dry well. They did tell me. Oh well, guess I can ask them at closing. Thanks for the info.
