I heard that aqua water wants a 12% rate increase. How do I find out if this is true. I called aqua and they said nothing? I would like to know what this increase is based on?

earle75, Aqua America Inc. increased our rates here in NC from paying $52 to $58 per month to $90 to $100 per month. Call your Utility Commission and tell them to not let them increase your rates. Go to the meeting they have to invite all residents to. The NC Utility Commission here in NC did not care what we said they let them increase the rates anyway. I have been fighting it for a year now and there is nothing more I can do.

I think this is already going through. I remember hearing about it not too long ago, even made Newsday. I hope I am wrong.

Yes, Earle, find out if the water company has improved the pipe bringing the water to your house, find out if the reliability of water deliverabiity has gone up - then call your Utility Commission and tell them you don't want improvements made to your piping, you will either dig your own well, or walk over to the ocean to start your own homemade desalination plant.

You are talking about 30 cents a day and complaining? Are you serious?

Thanks for the Defence Gpsma
Maybe I was not clear:
The water/sewer bill went from $700 per year to $1200 per year. Difference of $500 per year which is $41.67 per month and $1.35 per day increase. Basically doubled in one increase. I do not believe they should have allowed that in one increase.

I have reported them to the Department of Justice, FBI and The Better Business Bureau. You can do the same and maybe somebody will hear us if enough people speak up.

It's a public company, call their CEO DiBenedetto (Aqua America) - maybe he can explain it to you.

Let's undertake an experiment shall we: You lend me a hypothetical 1 million dollars at 0% - I will then pay you back in "inflated" (read: worthless) dollars over a period of 30 years. Now your water/sewer bill will remain at $700 per year.

Now in the real life, you lend 1 million dollars at a rate of 4%, you will be paid back in equal semi-annual installments of 20,000 for interest and at the end of 30 years you receive your million dollars - how much have you received in total? You have received $2.2 million dollars.

Which option as lender do you prefer? We already know that most people prefer option 1 as a borrower.
