Malverne School District's teachers are really good and given students that want to learn they do well. If you have a child in the district that wants to learn they will. There are no issues involving students of different races not getting along either. Yes, the taxes are high and that is very sad,, but they are high all over the island. With everything going up, and the economy as bad as it is,,, naturally,,, taxes go up. This covers salaries, benefits, district costs, i.e. electricity, heat, maintenance, etc. Yes, there are stupid things that money is spent on, however, that applies to most districts. While Rockville Centre and West Hempstead do make up a good percentage of the student body this is not a good reason to keep your children out of the district. We have, what I perceive to be "white flight" and although they may deny it, it is obvious. The same people that voted for a black president (1/2 white) keep their children away from the black student body. How ludicrous is that? If the district's residents from Malverne allowed their children to attend a multiracial school, I believe the district would come up in ratings. When these very same children go to work, one day, they will be mixed in with all races and have to learn to get along. We are all people,, people that bleed, people that walk, talk, etc. If you want the school district to be a good one then I suggest you all send your children to it and fight to make it what you want it to be. Stop complaining about how it brings your home's worth down and use the district that you bought into. Unite and fight. Take an interest in your child's education and surroundings.

You make a great point.

I do agree that it's obvious that many parents from Malverne choose not to send their kids to Malverne Schools solely due to race reasons. I mean, I could understand if Malverne schools was a poor performing school district but Malverne Schools already have fairly good performance (Greatschools rating 7/10) and a higher graduation rate so they can't use the excuse that "they don't want to send their kids to failing schools" because there is no failing schools!

While the Malverne Union Free School District does cover small areas in Rockville Centre and West Hempstead, I think you are referring to Lakeview.

Lakeview is one of those many villages and hamlets on long Island where none of the places in the community have the community name as part of their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Lakeview have a "West Hempstead, NY 11552" and "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address.

I know this is an old post but I just have to say that I have two children, boys, that have been in the Malverne 12 school district since elementary school. They have received a wonderful education, wonderful teachers, have wonderful friends of
all races and religions. My youngest was valedictorian at Herber Middle school. Both are in the High School marching band.
Extra help is available for all classes. Teachers give 110% if not more. Kaplan SAT classes are provided For $75.00. There
are so many good things happening at this school it's a shame more people in the village don't take advantage of it. Most people that have negative things to say about the district know nothing about it. All schools have problems it's not perfect but both of my children are doing very well.
