covered under a parent's plan?

Yes, careful about the ages covered by parent's plan and the number of credits taken by student (I think student must be under 23, full-time and matriculating in order for the parent's plan to still consider them as dependents). YMMV

Your child needs to be under 23 and a full time student... But you need to waive it... SB gives you a time period to waive it and prove that your covered... If you dont they enroll you in it regardless...

Add to that housing, meal plan, fees & health insurance and you're looking at about $16.5K total per year.

My son looked into USB and UNH as well as other schools. UNH charges $21,617 for an in state student -- $5K more per year than Stony Brook. (If you're wondering, UNH is $35.5K for out-of-state) We have a very good deal here in NYS.
only $24k for with tuition/room/board/fees for out-of-state and international students. No wonder NYS is going broke. That's less than half of the price of most decent private colleges these days.
The article said tuition may increase a bit steeper at the four university centers (albany, binghamton, buffalo and stony brook) but it's still a great deal.
Thank you OhBeeHave
