For those of you that cannot get Newsday, I will reprint just the description of the woman and child that were shot dead just in case you might be missing someone or know of someone missing. Bonus: Newsday was not too PC to leave out their ethnicity!

Pelkofsky said the woman appeared to be Hispanic and in her early 20s, with long, dark hair.
She was slim, and was found wearing blue jeans, a white top, a red hooded sweatshirt with the word "Apple Bottoms" across the chest and down one sleeve. She also wore large, silver heart-shaped earrings, a silver belt and silver slip-on shoes without socks.
The boy, also believed to be Hispanic, appeared to be about a year or two old. He was wearing high-top Jordan sneakers, a red and black hooded Timberland coat with fur around its hood, and blue jeans designed by Sesame Street 123. He was wearing a diaper.
The bodies were found in an industrial area of Central Islip, near the loading docks of several businesses, including Raymour & Flanigan, Scientific Games and Freeport Paper.
Michael Hopkins, 23, of Mineola, admitted that he had been viewing and trading in child pornography for eight years, according to an arrest warrant filed by FBI agent Danielle Messineo in federal court in Central Islip.
Under the screen name Mike23NY, Hopkins obtained images of girls 6 to 8, the affidavit said. Hopkins said "he likes both boys and girls from age zero up," according to the affidavit.
A search of Hopkins' home computer showed it contained "numerous images and videos of apparent child pornography depicting children as young as infants," the affidavit said.
All I can say is "EWWWWW!!!!" Gross perverts like this really need to be locked away forever.
LaFemina met the girl via the social networking site My Yearbook, East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen Jr. said Friday. He said LaFemina made arrangements to meet the girl in East Hampton.
Though LaFemina was charged with third-degree rape - a charge that could apply to statutory rape cases and cases in which consent cannot be given because of the age of the victim or some incapacity - Larsen told Newsday he believes the girl did not verbalize her consent and was not legally capable of giving consent because of her age.
He said the investigation is ongoing and that the charges could still be upgraded.
Looks like it could be forceable as well as statutory.
Geremias Caceres took a bullet for his son, his widow said.
Ordered by three men to get on the ground during an attempted robbery a short walk from their Huntington Station home at 9:53 p.m. Jan. 24, Caceres remained standing as his 17-year-son lay down, prosecutors and police said.
Caceres, 38, was shot dead, and the assailants fled, prosecutors said. The teenager was unharmed.
Thursday, Caceres' widow said she believes her husband sacrificed his life to save their oldest child.

Newsday did not omit their ethnicity because they were victims and are seeking out witnesses or anyone who might have known them.
Newsday is infamous for not giving race/ethnicity for perps.
We had a guy like that one time when I was growig up. Cops handled it different back then, the cops would never be able to get away with it today.
First time I ever saw a "curb stomp"
But it worked dident it?
Now we have the highest recidivism rate in the world outside of European nations where they don't even have real prisons anymore and a murder sentence is 10 years.
We need more punishment and less rehabilitation in our prisons. Bring back bread and water and hard labor. Bring back penal battalions for all I care.
Great tool the internet is. Social networking via the internet is for idiots.
Speak for yourself. Social networking requires nothing more than common sense among adults and careful parental monitoring among kids. You have to be careful with it just as you would in any situation.

Too bad there is a serious lack of parental monitoring these days.

True. And the internet is rife with predators.
I just don't see the point in blasting social networking altogether. I've made some very dear "real life" friends and caught up with old coworkers and done some successful networking that way.
