I think you'd have better luck getting close to .5 acre in Greenlawn, my friend is on .3 there (although it feels bigger because of the lay of the land). CSH .5 acre will be pretty costly.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Your family can probably guide you as well. All are obviously convenient to Huntington, Northport and CSH probably have the best "village" feel to them, although Greenlawn has a nice little village as well.

ditto. We are on .5 in Greenlawn. I love the downtown in Northport though. Can't speak to cliques in school- my kids are still too young for that.
They're nice! I'm jealous!! :) (I love the actual village section of Northport and the harbor park there.)
While you may love the commercial district of the Village of Northport, Northport is a village and thus all parts or sections of the Village of Northport are actual village sections of Northport.

Greenlawn may have a nice little commercial district, but Greenlawn is a hamlet and by New York State definition, a village cannot be part of a hamlet and vice versa.

Wow, condescending much?

OP, ignore all of this. Aside from census wonks and Cliff Claven types, nobody thinks or speaks in terms of hamlets (including local papers, politicians, real estate agents and websites, local signage, etc...). If someone says "Northport Village," they mean the downtown business district. Same goes for Greenlawn, CSH, and Huntington.
I'm a 50+ year Huntington resident. Grew up in CSH and have a son who just purchased in Centerport. I agree with the previous posters thoughts and think Harborfields is probably your best bet (but CSH and Npt are great districts). While you probably won't find .5 waterfront acres in Centerport, look in the area off Little Neck Road by the Vanderbuilt estate. You'll find plenty of homes on comfortable sized lots that are within walking distance of the water. I think you'll be quite happy here

Yes, OP, if you want to start out as a geographic illiterate, then, by, all means, ignore this, and especially ignore NYS Geographic Glossary, and then you can refer to commercial districts in both villages and hamlets as "villages" and places that have a village name in their mailing address but are not in the village as being in an "unincorporated village" (that term, "unincorporated village", is a real geographic oxymoron as it means an unincorporated corporation!).
Wait a minute: I thought a hamlet was a small pig, what th' ?
You're obviously illiterate!
