That's a fairly comprehensive list, but I'd also add information technology as well as every company employs them and there are some fairly large local companies that specialize in IT services(such as IBM). It's not the best market paywise or in vacancies currently, but it's pretty much everywhere

Charles posted some good links.

I'd only add that Entertainment is NOT the largest sector of the LA economy.

The LAEDC notes that based on 2008 employment figures the biggest sectors are:

1. Toursim/Hospitality (458,000 workers)
2. Business & Professional Services (268,000 workers)
3. Entertainment (262,000 workers)
4. Wholesale Distribution (172,000 workers)
5. Health Services & Bio-Medical (153,000 workers)

i think the #1 industry in LA are the ports. Shipping, warehousing and logistics along with planes, trains, and trucks are huge here.

I think it DEPENDS on how they slice and dice the numbers in a given year. This LINK , also from the LAEDC, is based on 2007 employment numbers for LA County. International Trade ranks No. 3.

http://www.laedc.org/reports/LA%20County%20Profile.pdf

It shows that in 2007 the LARGEST sectors of the local economy based on total jobs were:

1. Tourism/Hospitality (456,000)
2. Business/Professional Services (288,000)
3. Direct Interntaional Trade (281,000)
4. Entertainment (244,000)

It could be that if you measure in TOTAL dollar volume or economic impact that Intl Trade would be number one. The above numbers are based on total employment in 2007.

THanks guys for the info. I only put entertainment on there because, you know, Hollywood be there (and everywhere I guess). I mean you cant whatch TV with out a mention of HW. And with all the reallity shows and what not. But I was just curious to what other markets ar big there. I would have guessed IT, shipping and business but the others that Charles mentioned i wouldnt have guessed. Ill be sure to search that link later,( thanks BTW) I figured tourism would be in there but I didnt think it would be huge or one of the top. I know San Diego is big on tourism cause by best friend used to live there but I guess if you put in the attractions in LA then ofcourse Tourism would have to be big. LOL thanks alot though, alot of useful info just on these posts
