I don't want to rain on this parade any more than others have ...

but $1500 for 3 bedrooms in a safe area with good schools? Thats a tall order.

1 bedrooms in Santa Monica go for $1500. In other "good" areas, 2 bedrooms go for $1500. 3 bedrooms ......... though.

Good schools? Even at face value, thats asking a lot.

Have you considered Culver City? Culver City High is supposed to be a decent high school. LAUSD's University and Palisades High School are also decent. And although some people might be biased against it because it is predominantly minority, I like what I've heard about Green Dot's Animo Venice. Animo Venice is a charter school that spends a lot of its resources to ensure their students are college bound. I have a friend who teaches there and she is regularly in touch with her students' parents to maintain strong lines of communication.

South Santa Monica is more affordable (ie south of Pico) and is not touristy, IMO. The touristy part, in my opinion, is closer to downtown Santa Monica.
