Photo of homeless man is stereotype, you won't see that in Calabasas, Thousand Oaks, etc. Santa Clarita, not as many homeless.

You're right but you'll burn up in the spring summer and fall. Disgustingly HOT in those areas.

Give me Camarillo or Ventura any day.

Contrary to my years-ago post, it turned out not to be true.

According to Salon, "Los Angeles is spectacularly diverse, and profoundly segregated." -- The 10 most segregated urban areas in America | Slide Show - Salon.com

I've lived in Santa Monica nearly 30 years. All the liberals here rhapsodize about their love of diversity. That diversity is "critical" and "crucial" and "vital" to their happiness, and what they love about Santa Monica. That they "need" -- not want, but need -- diversity.

For all that, Santa Monica is exceedingly white. Yeah, we get a lot of tourists. And a lot of Latino hotel and restaurant and domestic workers. But the natives are overwhelmingly white. And who's to say they don't like it that way? They say they love diversity ... but do they? Actions speak louder than words. Nobody's stopping them from moving to a more diverse area, yet they prefer it here, within a white majority.

So no, you do not "need" to mix with other "cultures" (a euphemism for race) to live in L.A.

You can live a lifetime in L.A. without mixing too much with other "cultures." You'll see some around, but L.A. is a city of bubbles. Rich Chinese are moving into Chinese areas -- Irvine and the San Gabriel Valley. Latinos are pushing the blacks out of Compton.

White hipsters are gentrifying Latino neighborhoods such as Boyle Heights -- and the Latinos are pushing back: In Boyle Heights, activists worry about high-profile art galleries' impact on the neighborhood

PSSST, a nonprofit arts space that opened on East 3rd Street in the spring, has had feces flung at the building. This week, various galleries on South Anderson Street got tagged, one with obscene graffiti against “white art.”

Blacks too worry about white gentrification: 'Black Beverly Hills' debates historic status vs. white gentrification - LA Times

A white person with much money can live a lifetime in L.A. without too much mixing with other cultures. Many rich white liberal celebrities and entertainment executives do just that.
L.A. is certainly no racial paradise, given the rise of hate crimes that increased from 2014 to 2015. I'm interested in the reports for this years. Pity it only comes later on next year.

LA has oodles of neighborhoods. Where you live is a lot determined by how much you can spend for housing.
Also, what you consider "fun" has a bearing. Hills, beach, city life, hiking, jogging, shopping...and proximity to work have to be considered. The best thing thats ever happened to LA is good coffee; we now have coffee everywhere so the original little collages of LA have all come back and you dont necessarily have to drive to mingle. Falling out of bed and being somewhere on foot is possible in many more areas than before.
