Hello all,
I plan on moving to WeHo with my wife in a few weeks and I wanted to get a feel of what people think of that specific area of WeHo. I hear from friends and co-workers that it is a great place to live. We want to be able to take late night walks (with caution of course), we want to feel safe. i personally come from a real bad neighborhood and I want to live in a place where I don't have to look over my shoulder as often.

The apartments we are looking at are between Melrose and Beverly but closer to Melrose and Oakwood.

And opinions would be great.

Thanks

what are the north/south boundaries? west of fairfax will be quite safe, by LA standards. east of fairfax probably has more property crime, as it is close to a high school, and melrose is a popular hang-out spot for kids suffering from a lack of organized activity and parental supervision in their lives, but i don't think you will be in any personal danger in the normal course. i think you'll be able to relax that stiff neck in your new neighborhood.

Its all good. If you really want to be cautious.. stay west of Fairfax, like Katenik mentioned. You can actually use La Brea as the most eastern boundry and you will be still be completely fine for what your looking for.

Yes the places we are looking at are very far west of fairfax, two blocks west of sweetzer as a matter of fact.

One more thing,
I have been looking online about the crime rate in WeHo and it is almost as bad as South Central and Compton.

Livingchoices.com: Real Estate - New Homes, Homes for Sale, Apartment Rentals (http://www.livingchoices.com/community/communitydetails.aspx?mid=4480&zip=90048 - broken link)

or am I reading this incorrectly?

Not that there's anything WRONG with that........

i have no idea what those stats mean, but i assure you, you will find living in west hollywood quite unlike compton or south central in every particular. don't worry.

Good areas to walk in, both for exercise and to do/eat/enjoy.

I would go as far as saying anywhere south of Melrose and west of Wilshire Country Club is a nice place to live.
