Hello,

I am moving from San Diego CA to the San Fernando Valley for work. I've never been there before so I'm not sure where to live. I will be at 6 different offices around the area of the San Fernando Valley and close to Simi Valley. Right now I live in the Gaslamp area, I have lived in DC and in Philly. My question is, where should I live in that area that has a fun night life / social environment? I'm single, mid 30s, no kids etc and I won't know anyone there. So I'm just trying to figure out a part of town that I might be able to meet some new people.

Any info you can give would be very helpful.

Thanks!

studio city, maybe sherman oaks. nowhere else in the valley has anywhere near the action that those two neighborhoods have.

Can you provide a better idea of where these six offices are, when you think you'll be there, when you think you'll be commuting, and how much driving you'll be doing?

In general Ventura Boulevard has a lot of restaurants on it and a few clubs. I think the further east you go Sherman Oaks and east of there, the more entertaining it gets. If you will be working on the far west side of the valley for the most part, then it probably wouldn't be a great idea to live in Studio City but, like I am asking, a lot depends on your work location(s) and commuting habits.

Thanks for the info. I know address of 4 offices, Reseda, Camoga Park, Simi Valley and Chattsworth. Not sure of the other ones. The job requires a lot of driving around from site to site all through the week. I would rather have a little more of a commute then be in a boring area. Hope that helps-

Maybe Woodland Hills/Warner Center/Calabasas. If you want significantly more excitement then probably Studio City??? but that is more than a little bit more commute. Encino?

So it is sounding like Studio City is the most entertaining with Sherman Oaks being a second runner up? Is that correct?

Probably, but you really need to think about that commute. There's lots of traffic on the 101. It might not be worth it.

Does the traffic die down maybe after 9 or 10 am? Then pick up again from 3ish to 6 ish... or is it a parking lot all day long?

I can give you a lot of good info on the Valley. Studio City and Sherman Oaks are by far the best areas for a younger single person. If you are renting, stay between the 101 Freeway and Ventura Blvd (or south of the Blvd. is ok as well). Between Sherman Oaks and Studio City, there are tons of restaurants, a decent amount of bars, and a few clubs. Studio City is a bit more expensive because it is a heavy Hollywood scene neighborhood now.

I live in Sherman Oaks on the border with Studio City. The traffic shouldn't be too bad to the places in the Valley you have to go because most of the traffic goes South into LA city in the morning and north back to the Valley in the afternoon. Disclaimer: The 101 both ways between Woodland Hills and Studio City does get backed up, but plenty of local options. The 405 north in the morning is pretty clear as is the 405 south in the evening toward Sherman Oaks from north valley.

I find Studio City and Sherman Oaks among the most walkable neighborhoods in LA. Plus, you get more down to earth people than you do in the city.

Your third option is Woodland Hills. Lots of 30 somethings single and divorced. It is distinctly suburban, but the apartment complexes are newer and resort style (pool, clubhouse, etc) versus in Sherman Oaks and Studio City they are more traditionally city style built up to the street.

There's isn't much going on in Encino or Tarzana or Canoga Park.
