Hello:

We are moving to teh Santa Clarita Area. We just saw a beautiful condo in Canyon Country and we loved it. Also, everybody says that canyon country is very safe. However, i've heard that there are some specific areas inside canyon country that are not very safe. Is that truth?? Which areas are the good ones and the bad ones?

thanks a lot for your help!

I lived in CC a few years ago. Most of it is nice, safe, and quiet. The "good" areas are Fair Oaks Ranch (exit Via Princessa and go to the other side of the freeway), Sand Canyon (ranch area with HUGE homes), Shangri-La area (off of Soledad Canyon), and Canyon Crest (Whites Canyon at Canyon Crest).

Basically the newer homes are now considered the nice areas. The two areas where I've seen some trouble are the older homes near Stillmore and Crossglade, near Leona Cox elementary (just down the hill from the Canyon Crest and Shangri-La view homes) and the apartments near Jakes Way (near Costco).

Police officers are found often driving around in these areas...called out for domestic violence, drugs, car theft, loud parties, etc. I believe a car was stolen recently at the Via Princessa Metrolink station. That's considered big news around Santa Clarita...since most of the city is super low in crime.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
mari

Safety will be your last worry. Analyze commutes to jobs out of SC and hot weather in summer (big A/C bills).
Otherwise it is a pretty nice place for families, and probably boring for single people.

This is pretty acurate as I lived in SCV for 22 years though West of CC over in Valencia. If you can afford it and don't want to worry about anything other than yuppies tailgating you in their SUV's trying to "get ahead" then move to Valencia or Saugus
