Hi every one, I am moving my family from south Florida to soCal next year. My wife and I are in are early 30's with 2 kids. Can anyone tell me were there are safe, but not too boring family areas outside LA. We would like to have shops and nightlife close by; preferably walking distance. Our budget for a house is around 2 million. Thank you so much for all your help.

need much more info here. Where will you and your wife be working? "Outside LA", meaning not in the City of LA? How far out are we talking?

Sorry Jaypee and 1200 I'll be a lil more specific. Commute to work is not an issue because I work out of my house (run an online company with the wife). When I say "outside LA", I mean within 10-20 miles max outside LA. I know LA has very bad traffic and I would like to avoid it as much as possible. Also, I don't know which beaches are good for taking the family so beach info is also appreciated. My budget for a house is around 2 million and would like a safe, fun environment for my small children. Thanks again for all your input.

Take a map, and draw a circle 60 miles from "down town" los angeles. Thats what most people consider "LA". LA is much more spread out, so its hard to narrow down by saying "20 minutes outside".

I would look into santa monica, but your 2 mil wont go as far as you think.

Since you work out of the home, I'm not sure why the concern with traffic. You can live practically anywhere in LA with the only requirements being safety, nightlife, and shops. I like beach cities so I'd choose Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, etc.

With your $2M budget you can go anywhere. Santa Monica is nice but very dense and it may take you 30 mins to an hour to go couple of miles at peak times. El Segundo, La Mirada, Anaheim hills, Yorba Linda, Cerritos, Los Alamitos come to mind.

$2m buys you a medium size 3-4 bedroom single fam house in SM. You're not going to get a lot here.

El Segundo is a great suggestion, I really like ES.

Big lot? Beachfront? Public or private schools? Secluded? etc

If I had that kind of money to swing a house I'd look at Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, or Naples
