There is alot of decent stuff on craigslist; maybe if you get the furniture here you could 'splurge' a bit and get a new TV...... I don't know about buying a used flat screen? At least if you get a cheap one from BestBuy or Walmart you can take it back if there's a problem. They are alot cheaper than they used to be and I've read reviews on some of the questionable brands and they seem to be improving quality. For furniture - not sure, livingspaces?
