Hi Everyone! Thank you to everyone who uses this cite, it's such a huge help!

I've secured a job in Woodland Hills and now just have to find a place to live nearby because I don't want to live in Woodland Hills. I'm a single, 26 year old gay male.

MY DILEMMA: I've always wanted to move out of my Midwestern town of Minneapolis, but now that the option is real, I'm having serious doubts about my motives for moving. Unlike those who move to "pursue their dreams" in entertainment I'm just looking to move for a new experience, to meet new people, enjoy the weather, and hopefully learn more about the world than I've been able to here in Minneapolis. THE PROBLEMS I'm worried about in LA: Traffic, high cost of living compared to MN, fake (or so I hear) people, missing my family/friends back at home.

Any advice from others who made the move, decided not to, or otherwise?

Any advice on where to live if I went forward with the job transfer?

Thanks!
J

Look at Studio City and Toluca Lake. A lot of young single folks live there (yes, many are in the industry), less families. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, amenities. Traffic east-west along the 101 or Ventura Blvd isn't as bad as some other parts of LA.

I think you'll be very happy with Studio City or Toluca Lake -- it's relatively convenient to your work, and it's also pretty centrally located so you're not too far from other places like West Hollywood, Hollywood, Silverlake, etc. And, it's also reasonably priced for LA.

Just go on Craigslist, and search for apartments with the keywords "studio city" or "toluca lake" and you'll get a sense for what the costs will be.

Thank you for your advice. Any idea how long a commute would take from the Studio City area?
