Default No beach in LA

You'll know you're on City of Los Angeles beach if:

The restrooms are chained shut.
There's trash overflowing the cans.
There's homeless people living on the beach.
There's dilapidated RV's parked along the streets near by with derelicts living in them.
There tagging and graffiti on the sidewalks and signs.
If the signs say Venice Beach.

Drive or take the bus to a Malibu beach. Or go to the beach in Santa Monica by the pier. In those adjacent cities the taxpayers and the tourists get something worthwhile for their money.

Yes, I'm not only angry, I'm grossed out about LA's beaches.

It may sound odd, but it depends on what kind of beach you like or what you want to do. There are beaches preferred by surfers (El Porto), for obvious reasons. There are beaches that come with entertainment (Santa Monica & Venice), there are family beaches (Torrance), there are people-watching beaches (Malibu), there are party beaches with firepits (Dockweiler) and there are beaches that will quickly hasten your demise (Cabrillo). So it depends on your interest. ( ) are only examples and not suggested as "favorites."

For the whole "beach town" experience, my favorite is Manhattan Beach. However, if we're just talking about the beach itself (clean water, nice waves, soft sand), I have to go with Zuma.

For pure beauty I'd go with Pt. Dume beach in Malibu which is right next to Zuma Beach.

For pure entertainment I'd go with Venice Beach.

and for the over all community and experience I would suggest Manhattan Beach. Of course I have always been partial to New Port as well and Laguna is beautiful.

The best beach is the one closest to you.
My favorite is Jughandle up north. Since it is a 8 hour drive I prefer Huntington as it is only 15 minutes away.

It is as my Hawaiian buddy told me about Aloha shirts - the best shirts are the cheapest if not free!

I love Manhattan Beach, nice sand, lots of fun, good restaurants nearby.
Yes, Venice is fun for a freak show.
