Hello everyone ,

I am a german student and will be doing my semester abroad at the California State University in Northridge and I will be moving there with 3 other friends for 4 months from January to May.

I have looked through many different websites (see below) trying to find an affordable 4 bedroom appartment/house to rent, but haven´t found anything proper yet. The rent per person shouldn´t be more than 800$ a month. (the cheaper the better )

Therefore I wanted to ask if anyone of you has any tips of where one can find affordable 4-5 bedroom housing in the area around the CSUN campus in Northridge. Because we are only in the US for 4 months it would be best to find a furnished appartment. I would also be very happy about general information and tips about what areas to avoid, what to see and what to look out for. But the main problem maintains the housing search

Thank you in advance for your help

Chris from Germany

You most likely won't find an apartment that's four bedrooms...most apartments are around 1-2 bedrooms so I doubt if you want to live together you can do it in an apartment. If you want to rent a house you may find better options but there aren't that many renting houses. IMO it won't be possible to find a four bedroom apartment or house to rent in the Northridge area.

There are 2 for rent right now in Sherwood Forest, which probably means 4 BR. Not sure of price...

One on Raymer, one on I think Louise?

You should work with CSUN directly on the housing issue, they might have connections for better rent.

there are plenty of houses in northridge, so i'm sure rentals exist. you're biggest problem probably won't be finding a house with 4 bedrooms, the bigger issue is your short stay. most landlords here have their tenants sign a 12 month lease.

I agree with the main issue of renting from a private landlord would be the length of your lease.

There are plenty of affordable 4 BR houses in your price range - you could probably rent near the campus for around $3,000 USD a month - right in your budget after adding utilities. I would search through Craigslist to start. I think you will have trouble finding a short term lease - but you can ask!

An example can be seen here Spacious 4Bedroom 4 bathroom house near CSUN for rent

You may want to go through CSUN for a short term rental. They have student housing and off-campus referrals.

wow thank you all for your help and advice I didn´t know about the problem with the 12 month lease... this doesn´t sound good. We originally split up into 4 and 3 people, because we were at first trying to get a house for 7 people, but it was clear very early that this was not going to happen... so maybe we need to split up again and rent like a 3-2-2 arrangement.

thank you cawolf86 for the link! This is what I had in mind
