Villaraigosa still receives some mayoral treatment, according to CBS2 investigative reporter David Goldstein. Sources told Goldstein that the former mayor will have a security force for the next six months, chauffeuring him around with taxpayers footing the bill.

King Tony V!

It's kind of interesting though that it would be 6months. So if someone wants to harm them after 6months they'll get over it?

As a taxpayer I would like to know how much it is costing us too.

Perhaps there's a six month processing period for a name change so he'll be able to live in hiding using yet another alias...however, somebody tell him he can't use Carlos Danger because that name is already taken...

Here's a question - is this something that only Tony Villaraigosa is getting, or is this something that Los Angeles has done for its past mayors.

From the article

Quote:
Jim Hahn confirmed that he also received six months of security when he left office in 2005. Former Mayor Richard Riordan, however, said he didn’t.
Seriously? Ya'll are ridiculous. Do some reading beyond the headlines. Why would you hate Villaraigosa for this? If I was him I would take the protection too. God knows enough people in this city vehemently dislike him.

Well regardless if someone else got it or not doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

It's not something to hate him for , it's also his ton too.

“Beautiful thing is I don’t have to answer to you anymore,” Villaraigosa told Goldstein.

Very arrogant sounding for someone that has made their living off taxpayers..

yeah that was a dumb thing to say. I am assuming that he wants to continue his political career, doesn't seem very prudent.

But like I said I would absolutely take the protection. I don't think it is the wrong thing do.

I read the entire story before posting it, and yes, I know Jimmy "Los Angeles Is a Mexican City" Hahn got the same thing. However, it doesn't excuse Tony "Uhhh Uhhh Uhhh...Is This Thing On?" Villar from being a jackass as well...especially when he went way farther than Hahn regarding pensions, travel expense abuse, free ticket abuse, etc.

I thought the very same thing when I heard him say that. After he said those words, he told the interview to go take up with police chief Beck. It seems like someone in the public eye would have had a canned response in case somebody called him on out on these perks. He could have said something like "All of the previous mayors have had this same perk..I didn't invent it."- that would have taken the reporter off the trail of the scent.
