You know, the park between Chinatown and Lincoln Heights along the Gold Line route.

I used to live in the area a decade+ ago, when that park was a rail-yard thing.

Around 4-5 years ago, Los Angeles revamped that stripe of land into a park. I remember it looking pretty good with nice grass and newly planted trees.

However, I was taking the Gold Line to Union Station today and noticed a wasteland of brown grass and unkempt walking trails. No one was at the park and the eastern half was a huge dirt lot with a temporary concert stage and a lot of big yellow machines. And it looks like nothing has ever been added (permanent structures, playgrounds, fountains, paved roads, etc).

Is Los Angeles still maintaining the park? Is the land still being used by the public other than for food truck festivals and the occasional concerts?

That is the part of the park that is used for concerts, etc. And I may be mistaken, but I believe the park is maintained by the State of California. Never seen anyone from the City out there. The lower part of the park is rather nice- I take my dogs there sometimes.

The park is getting a huge renovation starting this fall. Could be something to do with it, along with dozens of summer concerts and festivals that tear up the park. I went to one festival last summer, FYF, and the far eastern portion of the park got destroyed.

I see. Maybe I missed some of the greener spots... but overall it's not a park that is attractive.

It's a pretty good piece of land and it has potential to be a good Downtown/Chinatown-area park, especially with that new senior and low-income housing building west of the Chinatown station and the upcoming Little Joe's apartment.

i know they host the occasional rave at that park. that many kids on drugs can't be a good thing for the grass.
