I am planning a stay in LA for a weekend with a few of my family members and currently looking for a budget conscious place to stay. How is this part of east Hollywood in terms of safety and traffic? Are there any particular areas that should be avoided?

Not the best part of East Hollywood, but if it's only for a week it's fine. Pretty close to transit, which is a bonus.

Having lived at Hollywood and Normandie, the hotels I would walk past did not look nice, clean, or new. Traffic is moderate, it gets backed up at all the freeway ramps (santa monica/western, hollywood/bronson), but only close to rush hour. In order to suggest better areas for you to stay, what parts of LA are you planning on visiting? Will you have a car? Are you using public transportation?

Are you staying at family members' residence? Or getting a hotel? Finding a decent hotel at cheaper rates can be a tricky, but doable process in L.A. THere are some tricks I can share if it's a decent, affordable hotel you're looking for assuming you're flexible on what part of L.A. you stay in.
