It's kind of lame going to a bar and hitting on or trying to pick up on the bartender ,especially if she's good looking guys are going to be all over her 24/7.

I agree, and your standard bars will go for less attractive but more experienced/better personality.
But those trendy nightclubs will employ any model idiot who only knows how to make a vodka soda.
Get beyond a two ingredient drink - heck, even a martini, and it gets too complicated.

Book's
much better than the movie, IMO. I thought Brad Pitt made for a terrible Tyler Durden, among other criticisms. But the scene depicted here was certainly good for a laugh (and I still consider myself a fan of the movie, mostly out of respect for the book/Palahniuk in general)
