I'm going back to school to learn arch design and something just dawned on me. With all the studios here, how hard would it be to get into studio design and construction? I don't even know where to ask if this is doable, what forums or where to start looking? I'm sure an arch degree might help to get in the industry's technical side, no?

Ask at your school if they have any partnerships with any of the studios, production houses so that you can intern.
You are going to have to network your butt off to see if you can get in a construction crew somewhere, then work your way up.

I figured it would be hard but I am for it. The school I am going to get my basics from, the Associates in Arch design and drafting is Glendale College, I don't know how extensive their connections would be in this field but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. Once I get to a masters program (I already have my bachelors) I will make sure to hound the profs and dept for internship connections and such.

It is incredibly hard to get into the industry in any capacity unless you know someone. That said, construction is one of the easiest. set design is a whole other story. I am a 15 year industry vet, i actually do know what im talking about.

Construction of movie sets you mean? Couldn't the departments at a university know a person or have connections?
