I've never dealt with such an incompetent energy company. I call them to turn on the gas two weeks ago (as if it wasn't bad enough that it takes two weeks to get someone to turn on the gas) and the service man finally shows up today. I find a little tag on the outside of our apartment security door saying "sorry.. we missed you!" If it weren't for that, I would have no idea they even showed up. I have to stay home for a four hour window only to get no phone call, no notice, nothing. I then call the company and the woman on the line (after searching for 20 minutes through a maze of unhelpful automated voice) tells me that I will have wait another week. Are you ---king kidding me?? How do they get away with this?

I am considering just buying an electric stove and getting rid of my gas stove just so I don't have to deal with this horrible company. They are up there with tow truck drivers, Sallie Mae, Monsanto, and any other horrible business that thinks they can do whatever they want.

Question: Would using a gas stove be cheaper or more expensive than an electric? I am trying to decide if it's worth the few hundred to not deal with this "company".

They charged me a $50 deposit to start services with them. I have a credit score in the 700 range, but they were like nope, we're checking this one random credit company that says you aren't trustworthy when it comes to bills. I was rather annoyed. And then I check my bill couple months ago to figure out why I have credit and they apparently just automatically applied my deposit to my bill after a year of service with no notice.

Comparing them to Monsanto is a bit much though. Gas is much cheaper than electric here.

They suck...I agree. But they have a captive audience since gas prices are cheaper than electric.

I'm told it costs $20-25 a month to heat a gas stove if you cook frequently (I like to cook). I'm trying to figure out how much that would cost if I used electric. Any idea? I had no idea this company had such a horrible reputation. I've read complaints of every problem imaginable.

If you think the gas company is horrible, wait till you deal with LADWP (the electric company).
They make the gas company look like Oxford scholars.
Bob.

Believe it or not, LADWP was well managed in the past years. As for So Cal Gas: I think it all changed when the merger of Sempra was created.
