With never ending taxpayers money constantly flowing in theres most certainly no need at all for even the slightest hint of effenceny or value for the taxpayers money.
Your paying for their pay, pensions, and healthcare for life.
This is a big state with lots and lots of teachers, each are forced to pay union dues which makes their union the most powerful one on the planet.
The union spends that money to elect Democrats Communists to make sure their gravy train continues.
Its for the children. Yeah right.

Is this a rant or a question? And what does it have to do with the title? School is back this coming Monday.

First, before you spout off about your precious taxes read the article below:

Educational Leadership:Beyond Instructional Leadership:Unequal School Funding in the United States

Here in NY we outspend you about 2 to 1.

Second, your students received an extended break now, ours will get an extra week off in February for no reason. Each state must meet a minimum number of school days with students in attendance. This is set by states. Any more days require more funding which would increase your taxes.

It's tiring listening to the uninformed whine about something they understand nothing about. Despite the national preoccupation, not everything is about money.

And before you go off about teacher compensation, read this article:

http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/20...he-world/?_r=0

Comparatively speaking, by someone actually employed in the field, LAUSD is one of the most progressive school districts that has pioneered many programs eventually adopted by other districts around the country. They also face an array of unique problems that, when all is said and done, they actually handle pretty well.

The case could erode organized labor's influence by allowing public sector workers who are not union members but are forced under state law to pay "agency fees" equivalent to union dues to stop providing this money. This would reduce the income and political clout of public sector unions.
Let's hope this happens. I never understood how it's legal to force someone to join a Union and force them to pay Union dues here in CA as a condition of employment. This is a clear violation of anyone's basic rights as a US citizen.

Let's hope the Supreme Court finds it unconstitutional and rules it out.

Such a ruling would apply in 25 U.S. states that do not already have what is known as "right-to-work" laws that prohibit workers from being forced to pay fees to a union.
U.S. Supreme Court set to hear challenge to public sector unions

Classic Vega. Your posts never cease to amaze me. Let's just stop funding schools all together, great idea!

Where California’s Public School Funds Come From

Remember Prop 30 that was passed in 2012 as a temporary tax? Truth is 80% went to teacher's salaries and pensions.

A tax promised as temporary to get it passed, now being proposed to become permanent by the teachers and public employee unions, who would have guessed?

Watch out they're heading for your wallet again! Just vote NO!

Quote:
Last week, the coalition including the California Teachers Association, Service Employees International Union, and other public safety and public employees’ unions, introduced their version of a Proposition 30 income-tax extension that would run through 2030. The estimated $7 billion to $9 billion in annual proceeds would be deposited into an account for K-14 schools.
It's long overdue for a system overhaul.

Just for kicks I looked up a couple of school districts throughout the country.

In Idaho one ended school on 12/18/ 15 and started back on 1/4/16.

In another state ended school on 12/19/15 and started back on 1/6/16.

So while not a month, there is still a long break.

Wow! Back in the 80's we got Christmas Day ONLY off. We still had to attend the day before and the day after.
Getting a "winter break" of 2 weeks off school is sick. LOL
I wonder how that came about.

Back in the 70s we had two weeks off. I've never heard of ANY public school in California that allowed only Christmas Day off.

People travel for the Holidays. It makes no sense to only have Christmas day off and I've never heard of such a thing. Even when my dad was in primary school he had 2 weeks off.
