L.A. isn't much of a "walking" kind of city (hence the car culture), I've only walked a few miles along Western Avenue (in Gardena and South L.A.) in the past. Interesting characters around those parts....

I once walked from ocean/San Vicente in Santa Monica to marina del rey when I got a flat tire on my bike. I have gone much longer distances by foot, but it was running or hiking.

For long walks, I like to do so in the foothills/mountains outside of the city, or in the suburbs tucked into the hillsides on the fringes of L.A. (basically anywhere north of the 210).

8 miles. I've walked from Brentwood, all the way down San Vicente, then back up to the VA and back into Brentwood.

What do I win?

Longest walk was from Lankershim and Magnolia to Laurel Canyon and Magnolia. My old roommate and I took the redline from Hollywood to Noho and then walked the distance back to our place. That was far enough for midnight in December.

9 mile round trip from Marina Del Rey to the end of the Palisades trail in Santa Monica and back. Beach trail the whole way except up for Santa Monica.

My longest was 9 miles round-trip from Yucca/Wilcox in Central Hollywood, down Wilcox to SM Blvd to Fairfax, down Fairfax to Melrose and then all the way down Melrose to the Pacific Design Center. Not sure if that is the exact route we took back but due to the area's grid it was something very close to the 4.5 miles on the way there.

I've also taken the bus to 22nd / Santa Monica Blvd, walked to Ocean Ave., walked the strand to Venice Blvd and then back to Santa Monica / Ocean ~ 7 miles.

Longest walk from me was from John Burroughs Middle School Wilshire and McCadden (McCaden?) to the Santa Monica Pier. Took me four hours.

Personally I always found LA a great place for walking. I don't live in LA, so when I'm there visiting my relatives, I appreciate being in the city and I really enjoy walking and taking the bus everywhere.

lol Thats a long walk! I walked from Century City to the Santa Monica pier, and I felt like that was a really long walk, but that's only about half off what you did.

Next time I'm in LA, I want to try to walk from Downtown, or maybe Koreatown to Santa Monica.
